New Year New Goals

Happy New Year!! Now that 2020 is officially upon us, it is time to put your best foot forward and take this year by storm. A new year is one of the best times to wipe the slate clean and create a fresh start for yourself. It's also a time to reflect on accomplishments. A moment to look back and see what's different from January to December. However, there's something about the turn of a decade to inspire a detailed examination. The opportunity to create space to revamp and reinvent yourself both personally and professionally. It's a chance to use a longer unit of measurement, ten years, to decide whether or not you're on your intended path. It is important to determine what goals you want to accomplish over the coming year, but also the new decade. Maybe the focus is expanding knowledge in order to grow your business. Maybe it's time to step out into a new venture. It might simply be time to focus on creating balance between work and family or even creating a routine for self care. Whatever might be in store, now is the time make sure you are creating the stepping stones that will ultimately lead you to your success.

On the surface, this seems like an easy task. You look at what you have done and compare that to what you wanted to do. Then you create a scale to determine how well you did. But, if you take a moment to look deeper, you can find key factors that have played a major role in your level of success or lack of, if that's what you discover. It's important to think about how you felt along the way. The level of stress or discomfort you have experienced is a strong indicator as to how deep you need to go. How was your time management? How many projects were completed in a timely fashion? How many were late or not completed at all? Did you feel like you were prepared? How comfortable were you in meetings or sales calls? It's natural, at times, to feel out of your element generally speaking, however there's a difference between feeling like there was something you should have known compared to a simple oversight. Were there times you felt you lacked knowledge to start or complete a particular task? Did you feel rushed or overwhelmed? How was your personal life? Did you have time for family and friends? Did you make time for yourself? The list can probably go on forever if you let it, but a decent examination of your emotional state can give you specific areas where adjustments can be made and you will see immediate improvement.
